[july 19] botanical "cyanotype" jeans

Upcycle your favorite pair of jeans, overalls or denim jacket in this summer workshop with local artist Megan Berner. Each student will learn how to process their own clothing to create permanent prints using Sierra Water stems, the sun, and some magic! Design and layout techniques will be covered in the workshop. All participants should bring their own pre-washed, ironed garment in order to participate.

Material of your garment must be 100% natural fiber ie; linen, cotton, silk, cotton canvas. If you are unsure of your material, please email us. Lighter material, natural and light blue work best. Dark washes and black will produce no results.

At this time, due the amount of pre-planning, nature of a workshop environments and with respect to our instructor, we can not issue refunds on workshop registrations. In the event of an emergency, please notify us you will not be attending at least 48 hours prior to receive a credit towards another workshop. Workshop credits are not good for any in-store purchases.

about megan berner

Originally from the high desert, Megan Berner is a visual artist living and working in Reno, Nevada. She graduated with her MFA in Intermedia from the University of Iowa in 2008 with a minor in drawing. Megan works with digital and experimental techniques such as instant film, digital transfers, and cyanotypes. Her work is greatly influenced by the landscape of her native Nevada home as well as the vast prairies of the Midwest, being a twin, mapping and exploration, and countless hours of daydreaming. She creates site-specific installations that incorporate video and sound and constructs performative scenes that ultimately exist as photographs. Other forms her artwork takes include artist's books, collaborative interactions, textile projects, and narrative videos. Megan's work has been shown nationally and internationally and is part of multiple collections including the Center for Art and Environment at the Nevada Museum of Art, University of Arizona Art Museum, the University of Iowa Special Collections, and Southern Graphics Council International Archive.
