Help your community access more workshops!

We created the Atelier Assistance Fund to increase access to all workshops as we believe art and education should be accessible to all. This fund was primarily designed to support low-income individuals, but all can ask for funds on an honor system and no questions asked basis.

Limit one workshop per quarter and funds will be applied on a first-come, first-serve basis. Atelier in Reno reserves final right to disburse funds as they deem appropriate. All funds are only applicable to Atelier in Reno workshops.

If you would like to apply for funds, please email us at atelierinreno@gmail.com and include which workshop you would like to take. We will register you and notify you at the time of registration.

Great Basin Fiber Shed Fund

Consider donating to the Great Basin Fibershed Fund to support the work Great Basin Fibershed is doing to identify and bolster Nevada’s textile economy and its collaboration with Atelier in Reno.

Great Basin Fibershed hosts workshops taught by regional artisans that utilize natural materials, “slow” or by-hand methods. Past events include Mending Happy Hour, Community Indigo Pot, and Mystical Embroidered Patch workshop. Many of these events were funded through a micro-grant, which significantly lowered the cost per person while still allowing for instructors and Atelier in Reno staff to be paid a living wage.

Local Fiber, Local Dye, Local Labor

Please consider a contribution to allow us to continue hosting fiber shed based workshops.

About Great Basin Fibershed

The Great Basin Fibershed was established in 2021 as an affiliate chapter of FiberShed, a nonprofit organization established to develop regional fiber systems that build soil and protect the health of our biosphere. The idea of a ‘fibershed’ came from founder Rebecca Burgess’ novel plan to exclusively wear clothing for a year that was produced within a 100 mile radius of her Northern California home. Celebrating local sustainability, artistry, and economy, Burgess’ project grew into an international organization with affiliate chapters around the United States and many parts of the world.

The Great Basin Fibershed is significantly larger than many chapters. Our high desert environment requires a great deal more land to raise crops and animals to sustain a regional population. At present, our Fibershed is defined as the entirety of the Great Basin within Nevada state boundaries, which includes the majority of Nevada with the exception of the southern tip that is part of the Mojave Desert. Our focus is on utilizing the natural botanical and animal resources present in our desert environment.

Our current projects focus on hemp for textile use, community engagement, and raising awareness about regional fiber economies in the Desert West.
