about karina

Karina Conti is the owner of Opal Bee Soaps. Her journey in soap making started in 2019 after a class at Cornell University Cooperative Extension. Karina really loves teaching using the “Hands on Method” because that’s really how she learned to make soap. After her mother-in-law guided her though the process, she overcame the initial apprehensions of working with lye. This deepened her understanding of the craft and so the beginning of her soap making adventure began! Throughout the years, Karina has accumulated extensive experience through active participation in numerous local farmers markets, community pop-up events, and wholesaling. She has showcased her creations in competitions and has established a thriving small business that continues to expand. Karina's expertise spans a wide range from using all natural ingredients, to pigments, micas, and fragrance oils. Soaping with milks, teas, wines, and beers has made her appreciate the science behind soapmaking. Her passion for artistic expression has driven her to explore unconventional soap making techniques such as piping, sculpting, intricate swirls, soap dough and more. With all this Karina has concluded that with soapmaking you can have it all!… That is… a nourishing bar of soap and a beautiful piece of art! So, let’s remember to always use the pretty soap!
