about roberta cota-montgomery
Roberta is the maker and baker behind The Sugared Squirrel in Nevada’s Carson Valley. Raised in South Lake Tahoe, she finds inspiration in nature, found objects, and vintage supplies. Her creative journey began with a wedding cake business in 1994 and has included handmade paper florals, designs for celebrity clients, and two appearances on Food Network—including winning Christmas Cookie Challenge in 2021.
She has spent years teaching cookie decorating, embroidery, crochet, paper flower making, and other handcrafts throughout the Tahoe and Reno areas and in communities across California. Today, along with her recently retired (and very patient) husband, Jimmie, sell cookies and treats locally. She also leads creative workshops, with Jimmie providing the muscle and support. In every class, she encourages students to explore, try something new, and find joy in the process.
Roberta has been featured on the Food Network. Read about her story here!
