Join Lauren of Thick and Thin Lines for a 1.5-hour modern calligraphy workshop designed to meet you exactly where you are—whether you’re picking up a nib for the first time or returning to continue building confidence and consistency.
Each quarterly class follows the same approachable structure, allowing beginners to jump in at any point while giving returning students the opportunity to refine their skills through guided practice. You’ll learn how to properly use and care for your tools, practice foundational strokes and letterforms, and gain confidence creating thick and thin lines.
who is this class for
Beginners: No experience required
Returning students: Anyone who has taken a calligraphy class before, whether you’ve practiced regularly or not at all
Beginners will learn the foundations of modern calligraphy during every session, while returning students will receive bonus materials and optional challenges to continue learning.

All supplies are provided and yours to keep, including:
Two calligraphy nibs
Nib holder
Ink
Beginner practice packet
returning students can expect to:
Receive cards + envelopes (pack of 6), Place Cards (pack of 10)
Work on a guided activity creating their own holiday greeting cards. Attendees will rely on the light pad and other tools to help create even lines and work on overall composition.

Whether you attend one class or return throughout the year, you’ll build confidence, consistency, and a deeper appreciation for the craft—without the pressure of a traditional “level system.” Each class stands alone, but together they create a cohesive learning experience for those who want to keep growing.

In the event of an emergency, please notify us you will not be attending at least 48 hours prior to receive a credit towards another workshop. Lauren is a longtime Reno/Tahoe local, wedding and event professional and modern calligrapher. Growing up, good penmanship and lettering was an important aspect of her education. In 2018, she took that to the next level and picked up calligraphy. Her new obsession quickly became her business, Thick and Thin Lines Calligraphy. She loves creating cohesive signage and stationery for weddings that help express the individual style and personality for each couple she works with.
